The lovely people at The Little Lion, a restaurant in Philadelphia’s Olde City neighborhood, invited us to try their debut breakfast menu which officially takes off on April 17, 2017. I got my coffee, after all…
If you have ever been to the Little Lion, you know it has the best chicken. The place offers southern-style cuisine with a twist and a very cool interior atmosphere as well.
We at Diostardumplings, together with other attendees, got to sample their new breakfast menu, buffet-style.
1st plate: Applewood Smoked Beacon, Pork Sauage, Egg whites, Scrambled Eggs, and Hotcakes (they called it ‘Hocakes’ 🙂 ). The spread was a classic American breakfast, except for the hotcakes, which were made from cornbread, I believe. The cakes tasted sweet (which made adding syrup entirely optional) and had a fluffy texture.
2nd Plate: Velvet French Toast, Eggs Benedict with Salmon, Breakfast Potatoes, and Fruit Salad. The poached egg is cooked to perfection; topped with hollanddaise and capers layered on a piece of fabulous smoked salmon, which was served on an English muffin. The fluffiness of the Velvet French Toast sandwiched between two thick layers of a gooey sweet vanilla filling fabulously blends desert with a breakfast dish.
Their freshly squeezed orange juice, with its hints of various tangy fruits, got me hooked at first sip!
One of Little Lion’s owners, Chris, suggested that I try one of their signature Lattes. This one in particular is a breakfast latte with maple butter, maple syrup, chantilly whipped cream, a mini hotcake, and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Apparently, this is a drink made for a genius. Very sweet at first until you actually get to the coffee which gives the perfect balance with its robust bitterness. I managed to finish the entire cup, even after devouring two huge breakfast plates.
At this point, I had no room for desert…Yes, I know the saying “make sure you save room for desert”. The deserts looks scrumptious, but unfortunately I have to room left and headed to work. *Whomp….Whomp… 🙁
Overall, the turnout seems to be very successful. The restaurant was packed at 9:00 AM. I guess you cannot turn down a good Breakfast; it is, after all, the most important meal of the day.
Hats off to all the chiefs and staff members at the Little Lion. They offer outstanding food and top-notch service!
A special thanks to Chris and Kory for inviting us to this awesome event! Nice meeting you guys, and we will be back soon!
